The peacock is one of the most mesmerising birds one can behold, specially when they fan out their feathers and proudly display their magnificent plumage. However, peacocks are known for more than just their beauty. A peacock feather is known to impart positive energies.

The peacock is associated with several Hindu Gods- prominently Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Ganesh and Shri Krishna.

Therefore, it is a powerful symbol.

1.Goddess Kartikeya, the older son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and the brother of Lord Ganesh, is the God of War. He is popularly called as Lord Murugan in Southern India. He is renowned for his valor and his vehicle is a peacock.

2.Lord Ganesh, the God who is the remover of obstacles and worshipped first, is also known to be partial to the peacock feather. Putting 3 peacock feathers over the idol of Lord Ganesh at the entrance of the home, is auspicious for new beginnings.

3.Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and abundance, is also fond of the peacock feather. Keeping one at home at the area of worship, brings riches and prosperity.

4.Goddess Saraswati, is the Goddess of knowledge and art. When She plays the Veena, the peacocks dance in abandon. However, peacocks devour snakes even in the long grass, showing their focus. It symbolises converting the poison of ignorance to the brilliance of knowledge. Few know the link between the peacock and Goddess Saraswati. Keeping a feather in books, helps in better retention.

5.Shri Krishna, the Supreme Lord of the Universe, adorns a peacock feather in his crown. It is believed that the peacocks danced in pure bliss and ecstasy, as the Lord played the flute and enthralled the forest. The King of peacocks requested that He accept the feathers as a token of gratitude. Shri Krishna did so gladly and chose to wear one, instead of precious jewels and ornaments.

Thus, the peacock feather is also a symbol of love, purity and eternal joy. Keeping one at home will remove negativity and increase positivity.
